Besson euph circa 1950

Post by scottw »

A friend just bought a 1950's Besson 3-valve full comp euph in terrific shape, but w/o a case or gig bag. He is having difficulty finding one which will accomodate the bell front [moveable]. Part of the problem online is that he doesn't know the model of the horn to correlate that with the bag model.
Does anyone know which model was available then?
Thanks.

The Besson label for compensating line in the '50s was 8-10.

If memory serves, the bell-3-valve bell-front compensator was the model 175, the 3-valve bell-up was the model 176, the 4-valve bell-front was the 180, and the 4-valve bell-up was the 181.

Try a case from a King, Reynolds, Olds, or Martin "concert band baritone," as this was what your horn was marketed to compete with, including the detachable front bell.
