Parcel Post

Postby UTSAtuba » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:01 am

How long does it usually take to get something shipped through USPS Parcel Post? I bought a tuba from KS, and it's taking almost two weeks for it to get here. Is this unusual? (never gotten anything through Parcel Post)

Thanks!

No, that's not unusual. Parcel Post is 4th-class mail. It moves only when everything else has already moved. At this time of year, two or three weeks is not unusual, depending on how far it has to go.

How did you get a tuba through USPS? They have a maximum length+girth of 120 inches. A typical tuba might need a box 24x30x46, which has a length+girth of 154 inches.

yup...

The dimensions issue that Rick brought to light immediately occurred to me, and made me wonder if it's sitting somewhere in a "what the hell are we supposed to do with this huge-ass box, and who the hell accepted it for mailing?" pile.

Combined length and girth is estimated at 85" (35x25x25).

sorry, but no.

Your stated length is 35", and your stated girth is 100" (25" + 25" + 25" + 25"), with the total working number (length + girth) being 135".

Girth is not just the width (25") plus the depth (25"). Rather, "girth" is the length ALL THE WAY AROUND the four sizes that are NOT the longest side (the longest side being the "length").

135" is outside of of the size limits (5" outside) for anything the Post Office will accept, handle, and deliver. Were it mine, I might be making some phone calls explaining the situation and asking questions.

USPS does not take boxes the size of tubas, unless you bought a very small tuba I do not know how they would have allowed that to go through, it would have been measured and weighted when it was paid for. If it was taken someone made a big mistake.

That is correct, ask Marty about it....just do NOT model the "solution" he came up with....
