STOLEN TUBA Macon Georgia
Hey,
Dr. Heather Noyes Richter from the Macon Symphony and teaches at Georgia College & State University had her Meinl-Weston 45 S Stolen out of her car. There is a reward for the return, I'm not sure for how much and I don't have too many other details (more to follow) , but please be on the lookout for her instrument.
Thanks,
Bill

Can't really play that one in a banda, can you?
I hope all these stolen instruments get found and the bad guys get caught.

From Heather:
Tuba was in a Black Reunion Blues gig bag...zipper on the front pouch is broken. Alan Baer mouthpiece was in the shank. Dent on bottom bow right on the brace. Local news station is coming tomorrow to do a news story, let's hope maybe that helps get it back...
Appreciate your concern and help...never felt so violated in my life.
Please keep on the look out,
Bill

How does a thief steal a tuba out of a car? Was the car unlocked or did the thief manage to get the instrument out a window??

Anyone who's spent six months in juvenile reform school has had intensive training in advanced car theft techniques. They will open your car faster than you can with your key.

Update on the tuba...
My husband drove my car home from school since I left with 7 students for an Honor Band Festival in Athens. He parked it on the street in front of our house. He has never done that before, and was completely oblivious to the fact my horn was in the backseat. When he went out the next morning, they had used a rock to smash in the back window and then unlocked the door. Absolutely no leads...call pawn shops and scrap yards daily. Thoughts are that it has moved out of the middle Georgia area either into Atlanta or south into Florida. If you see anything, please let me know.
Thank you.

So sorry to hear about your tuba... Go easy on the husband! Every car I've ever owned has had a "double lock " feature, where when the car is locked from the remote or the key in the driver's door it is impossible to open from the inside. I guess they don't all do that?

Re: STOLEN TUBA Macon Georgia
I just got off the phone with Schnitzer Steel, a nationwide scrap buyer and notified them of this rash of thefts. They were very helpful and asked me to give my contact info so they could call me if anyone tride to sell one.
We don't know if these are being sold for scrap, but just in case, perhaps others may want to call around as well.

RETURNED TUBA: Macon Georgia
Miraculously, my tuba was returned to my husband's school this morning. A parent driving in town passed what looked like someone's belongings on the side of the road (from a likely eviction)...they stopped, saw the tuba (in its case) and decided to take it to Central High School to donate it to the band. Luckily the campus police officer knew my tuba was missing and they called my husband down to see if it was mine...he knew instantly it was and walked it across the street to me. Except for a strong smell of gasoline and a beautiful bell crinkle, all is well!
Thank you for all your thoughts time spent looking on ebay/craigslist...there is no way to explain why it was taken or how it ended up there...just so happy to have it back!

Re: STOLEN TUBA Macon Georgia
Awesome! Congratulations!
You'll have to let us know if the local news does a follow-up story with you. I remember about 12(?) years ago, Ed Goldstein's 6/4 Holton was stolen from his car in Baltimore (actually, it was about 2 hours after he left a gig at my high school!). There was a story on the news when it was stolen, and a follow-up story when he got it back a short time later (video of a short "thank you" performance at a city council meeting or something).

It is unlikely, because it is not true. And neither the tuba owner nor her husband are lying.the elephant wrote:That string of events is so unlikely as to be miraculous. Congratulations on getting you horn back!
