Hi
I'm looking into goldplating my F tuba mouthpiece. I had my Laskey 30H goldplated about a year ago, but the plating's durability isn't what I expected (I won't say who plated it). Which plater's would you recommend?
Thanks!

Re: Goldplaters?
I think some of the repair/restoration guys can do it (Lee Stofer, Dan Oberloh, Dillon's, etc.)

I'm assuming that you did not go to Anderson Plating Services in Elkhart. They've been plating for years and used to plate for the manufacturers and have the experience to do anything related to music.

Re: Goldplaters?
I have had several gold-plated mouthpieces. Two Schilkes (factory plated) and two others that I've had plated myself. The factory plating on the Schilkes was noticeably deeper/richer/darker than the others I had done. I have not had any done by the folks mentioned in this thread so far. I wonder how (if someone can comment on this) how their results compare to the factory plating. Of course I suppose this largely depends on the amount of gold used, and hence cost.

Re: Goldplaters?
What alloys are recommended for gold plating? 24 karat gold is soft and scratches easily. Is 22K, 20K, or 18K the best?
