UPDATE!! Meinle Weston tubas at the Colburn School Jan 22

Post by Norm Pearson »

Unfortunately some of the tuba I was told were being sent to try won't be here. This is the final list of tubas that will be available to try:

2250NP F Tuba
4460 F Tuba
5450 CC Thor
6450/2 CC Baer
195 BBb Fafner Rotary
195 BBb Fafner Piston

Unfortunately they were not able to send a standard 2250 F or the new 3450CC (3/4) :(

Dear Los Angeles area Tuba Friends,

Meinl Weston will be presenting a tuba event on January 22, 2012 from 2:00-4:00pm(ish) at The Colburn School in Downtown Los Angeles. Since Meinl Weston will have a very limited presence at the NAMM show this year I requested they send several highly desirable models available for play testing:

2250NP F Tuba
4460 F Tuba
5450 CC Thor
6450/2 CC Baer
195 BBb Fafner Rotary
195 BBb Fafner Piston

We will be in the Olive Rehearsal Hall in the Olive Building on level P2. There is a guard desk in both buildings, they will be able to give you directions.

Here is a link for directions and parking for The Colburn School:

Please come down to play test the tubas and spend some quality hang time with your tuba compadres (a few beers afterwards, perhaps?) I hope to see you there!

BTW These horns are part of a much larger shipment that is being sent to the TMEA and Army Band conferences. I wish they would send the whole lot to LA but we have to take what we can get.

Hi-
What is the difference between a 2250 and a 2250NP piston F tuba?

The standard 2250 has the same valve set used on most MW tubas: .750-.787-.807 (19-20-20.5mm) The 2250NP has a smaller 4th and 5th valve: the valve set is .750 (19mm) through all the valves. The tubing on the 5th valve is still .807 (20.5mm) however. It is a leaner sounding instrument and a bit tighter in response. I like it, some may not.
