Cleaning Your Tuba
I cleaned my tuba for the first time since I purchased it used. It is a 1971 Besson 994-1? BBb. All I have to say is WOW! It plays much better....there was a lot of crud in there. Any of you ever clean a tuba and magically have it play worlds better?

Re: Cleaning Your Tuba
Sure have! My King 1240 is an early 60's horn that looks like it spent a good part of its life as a school horn. When I cleaned it out I found candy wrappers, a sticky note, a wad of chewing gum and plenty of black crud just floating out. The valves are very fast now and it seems to play a whole lot better!
I am curious to know exactly where in my horn that chewing gum was though....

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving's probably not for you.

I once cleaned the sousaphone I was playing in HS, not pretty.....a somewhat sickening process that took a lot of rubbing alcohol on the mouthpiece to convince me that it was clean.
