Can someone perhaps push me in the direction of the "best going" list of standard Euphonium audition repertoire (including etudes?) (ref: military band auditions).

If I were on the committee, I would like to hear a LITTLE bit of some low bass trombone stuff, brass quintet tuba part,... Then again, I'm coming from a small American Army Band where the needs and roles are probably a bit more fluid than a large premier band.

Ok, I have a book of excerpts I received from a former Euphonium player in the CF bands. Off the top of my head I can't recal everything but I do remember a few.

-Tchaikovsky 4 finale
-Shostakovich Festive overture
-Stars and Stripes
Several Kenneth J. Alford marches (Quarterdeck, Colonel Bogey, the Middy, etc)

If you are inquiring about the upcoming CF audition, at the last audition I think they asked some sight reading with ensemble that was really recent. ( I can't remember exactly what piece, but I think it was a Philip Sparke piece with lots of finger work)

FWIH, they are more interested in seeing if someone is going to have great sight reading chops, as that is one of the main requirements of the job...

PM-Euph, interestingly its the CF Bands I am looking to audition for in the future. Do you recall the publisher /title of the excerpt book?

Any particular etude suggestions? I believe the CF auditions are in 2 or 3 phases. I know the first is a CD recording mailed in, then an invitation to semi finals, then a final round, including a sit-in with the ensemble.

I have the Arbans method, and the Rochut trombone studies (1st book). I have most of the Arbans 1st Characteristic study accessibly under my fingers.

Sorry if this has been covered, but how would you experienced folks suggest 'reserving' your repertoire throughout this type of audition process.
It is always essential to have contrasting pieces at each phase of the audition, however would 'saving' your best piece for the final couple auditions be suitable, and opt for mostly etudes in the 15-30 minute recorded CD?

Ideally, one would have multiple 'best' pieces under their belt, but time is of my concern (3 month deadline).

Suggestions are welcome. Come one come all! (I may run out of whiskey yikies!)
