That jazz clip is good! Very alive sound, yet not as overwhelmingly big as I would have assumed from the photo. But then it is an art-form of its own to play lightly on a big tuba. Let the fiddler play the bass line, while you play the supporting soloist in the BM band.
Great addition Doc! You've only had it for a short time. Wait a month or two after playing it regularly. Then try to Conn again. You'll really see the difference. Unless you play a Kanstul for a while you just don't understand how great these horns are. You are going to be so happy (even more that now...)
Is that the standard configuration for the pistons on that model, Doc? I remember seeing/ playing one with a more curved configuration at TUSABTEC, like that of a CB50.
That's me with my Yamaha YFB 621.
Oh, and that's Eric Ewazen with me after I performed the NYC Premier of his Tuba Concerto last weekend. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when he showed up.

Hey all, thought I would share this after month or so, but I finally was able to purchase my own tuba. Ended up buying the Chinese clone of the Mira 1291. I love the size of the horn as well as the huge open sound I get from the big bore size. I am going to be playing the first movement of the Gregson this March on this thing. I am been absolutely ecstatic.
