How much will this cost to repair?
So today in class one of our Miraphone 186-4U BBb tubas was stepped on when it was laying down on the floor (how we have always been taught to put them so as to not damage the bell by placing it on the bell). The damage that was done was that the bell popped out of the seam that it was soldered into (at this point: http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee4 ... iagram.jpg" target="_blank" target="_blank ). The tuba is still playable but sounds thin and vibrates at that point. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have the this fixed (a good estimate for a chain music store)? Sorry I can't provide pictures as this happened during the school day and I don't have a phone.

Every store is different, and prices vary so much...
One thing that might help someone give you a ballpark figure is to know if there is damage on the collar (that silver part you highlighted) or on the the bell. Also is there any other damage on the leadpipe, the valves or the slides...

I didn't get a good look at it I don't think that the collar or bell was damaged (well the bell was already pretty beat up but that's normal in the high school band class environment) but the leadpipe may have been damaged (possibly not but considering it is attached to the bell, it would make sense that it was). The valves and the slides were not damaged.

It's almost impossible to guess on cost without seeing the horn.
Where are you located? Perhaps someone here could recommend an experienced repair person who would do work for schools.

Or Super Glue or J-B Weld (this will piss off Tuba Tinker)goodgigs wrote:Try clear scotch tape.
Seriously, take it to a repairman. Should only cost maybe $50? Your band director should take care of that anyway...

Well an update on the condition of the horn, the lead pipe was not damaged in anyway so all that needs to be done is to resolder the joint. Hopefully won't cost to much because we have little money and 5 sousaphones to be overhauled
