FOUND! PT-6 or similar 5/4 rotary CC

Postby arpthark » Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:54 pm

Whoops, accidentally deleted my old post.

I sold my PT-20P and am looking to move up to something a bit bigger, preferably a PT-6, but will consider any five-valve, 5/4 rotary CC tuba. Finish, wear-and-tear, looks, etc. don't matter. I am going to leave this ad up until mid-March, and if I don't get any hits I'll go up to Michigan and pick out a new PT-6.

Looking for such horns as:

-PT-6 rotary

-Alexander 163

-Rudolf Meinl

-Cerveny, etc. "Kaiser"

-Miraphone/Mirafone 190

-Hirsbrunner HB-6 (long shot, I know)

not interested in Yorkaphones or 4/4+ instruments (PT-606, Miraphone 1291/2, Bruckner, Miraphone 188, etc)

I am located in Lexington, KY and will be willing to drive ~6 hrs. to play test the horn. Trying before buying is preferred, but if you'd like to work something out with shipping I will consider that too.

Show me what you got! If you have something for sale that is a big, rotary CC that I didn't list above, don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach me through PM here or via email at b.taylor90 at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

Blake

I'm a bit confused by your post. Didn't you just buy a Neptune? :? :

The Cerveny "Kaiser" and Miraphone 190 are roughly the same size as your Neptune - ( 5/4+, 6/4 rotary contrabasses). The Alex 163 is more a full 4/4 size (I don't care what some ppl say). And those horns all sound quite different from each other.

Sure you know what you want? :|

I had the Neptune on a trial basis and, after some hard thinking, decided that specific model wasn't for me after the initial "new-horn honeymoon" was over. I had it on trial for about a week and a half or two weeks, and am sending it back to the owner soon.

I know that I prefer rotors, and I want something on the large side. Finding a used Alex on the east coast is a stretch, but I have heard lots of buzz and would be open to trying one out myself, regardless of how you want to break down the _/4 designation there.

Again, I am open to trying out a variety of horns that meet that criteria - I'm not extraordinarily picky, but I have a ballpark idea of what I want. I don't want to miss a good horn (whether it has X sound or Y sound) because I didn't include enough parameters in my post. I figured I would make the post as inclusive as possible to see what's available, and then play test or try out the horn on a trial basis (unless it's a screamin' deal) and act accordingly. There are indeed many different sounds out there, and I'm really not opposed to that!

Thank you for your concern. Also, bump!

Horn has been found! Muchas gracias to the awesome Jon Voth of Pershing's Own for selling me his pristine 1996 PT-6 in silver plate.
