Tuba Player Attire

Right after my Easter gig I went out to eat dinner. Dropped salsa on my WHITE shirt twice, as any self-respecting tuba player would... but it wiped off without staining!
I checked, it was a Stafford 'Performance.' This should be the white shirt of choice for all tuba players. It must be make of vinyl thread the way that salsa wiped off. (It also has a collar button attached to an expander so you don't choke.)

Once (over libations I believe) my oldest tuba-playing friend and I designed PRE-stained shirts for tuba players so you wouldn't have to worry about stains. We began talking about the preferred foods of the greats like Harvey, Bill, Jake, etc. and designing a marketing campaign so you could buy a shirt stained like your tuba hero. It was a great idea but by the next day all of the details were lost. Another fortune squandered before it was amassed.

Over the last couple of years I have replace most of the dress shirts in my closet for the Stafford Performance shirts. Very comfortable, fairly wrinkle free as far as that stuff goes, and as Alex said fairly stain resistant. They come in regular cut for the average guy, fitted for the more trim/athletic fit, and big & tall and with JCP's new pricing structure they can be had for $10-30 if you shop careful.

Because of the desire to take a deep breath, I routinely eschew a cummerbund or vest when performing in black tie, and just use a plain straight collar shirt like the Stafford. Hey -- I'm on the back row with this huge thing on my lap -- who's going to notice?!

I agree a treated cotton shirt like the Stafford is a good shirt. some years ago when I was playing an outdoor concert with a souzy with worn valves, I got the green gunk drip out the bottom of the valves through the vent in the bottom valve caps onto my white summer polo-style concert shirt. Ruined.

Are these oxford cloth, or fine woven?

Your sartorial acumen obviously exceeds my own, but I'm guessing (after a google search) that they are oxford cloth.

They actually offer both an oxford version and a nice broadcloth (maybe more than that, but that's what I wear).
