Even if this were true, who cares? Like you said in a now-locked thread, clean air and water are things that everyone wants. Let's celebrate and pursue them, and to hell with any birthday parties. If Earth Day were today (the 23rd) instead of yesterday (the 22nd), would you still be bitching about it? You've already said you espouse the environmental stewardship aspect of Earth Day (remember that post? where you said everyone wants clean air and water?), so why wouldn't you be willing to celebrate and pursue those things every day of the year, regardless of whichever long-dead SOBs happened to be born?

The environmentalist movement is not one of wise conservation, but more of a militant bunch of know-it-alls who seek to impose their political will on others. Regarding clean air, clean water, boobs, and clean beer, I have no issues with any of them, except that the boobs also be clean. I don't even mind a dirty girl, but she could at least bathe.
