M&M Tuba TU1200 Review

Post by bradp »

I just bought an M&M TU1200 (Chinese) BBb tuba to play in the community band here in Boone County. I have played for 30 years now and majored in Music at Butler University and was lucky enough to study for a short time my freshman year at IU with the late great Harvey Phillips. This tuba plays like a $10k tuba. I am impressed with the difference between the JinBao of my friends I played several months back. I have owned several Kings, a new YBB641 Yamaha, a Mirafone 186, and played a Meinl Weston 25 in the community band. This thing plays better than all of those. I was very skeptical of the chinese tubas until I played one. I know there were some problems with these at first but I am really impressed with the new ones. I know I'll have to clean it to get the shavings out but this thing has great tone and intonation. The mouthpiece that comes with it sucks. I'll stick to my Helleberg and PT. Anyone is welcome to come and play it if they're in the area. (about 25 minutes from Indianapolis) Just wanted to throw this out. If you want an inexpensive tuba this is it!! Michael at M&M kept me up to date on everything too. I would highly recommend them too. I'll update as I play more. Heres a pic too.
