We just finished our annual Pops Concert, and this one probably had the highest score, ever, on the DG pure fun-to-play scale.
It was jazz (and a couple of standards). We played with a big band, on stage with us. Actually, sitting in with the orchestra, but in their own section (and dressed differently). Our selections were almost all Ellington and Gershwin.
The two best pieces, IMO obviously, that were just tons of fun, were Ellington's "Night Creature" (a great 12 bar blues solo), and that especially wonderful-for-tuba, "American in Paris".
It didn't hurt the fun and festive atmosphere that it was a near sell-out, either.
In my experience, "fun" and "satisfying" don't always necessarily occur together in orchestra concerts, but this one was both.. abundantly.
