I am having trouble with playback in Finale after I had to re-format my hard drive and re-load all of my applications. Now my playback skips and jerks it's way through scores. I had to access The Garritan Instrument Library to make playback even begin to work and I think it's Garritan causing the problems. It's driving me nuts.
I'm a long-time Finale user and am extremely proficient in most aspects of Finale, so I've tried a lot of settings and it ain't working'. Any experiences similar to mine? Should I trash Garritan?

Make sure each instrument is on a different channel and try turning off human playback if it is on. I ditched Garritan as well. MakeMusic does not seem to figure out a way to integrate it seamlessly into the program. Maybe someday...then again it is just as bad in Sibelius.

Re: Finale playback problem
Are you using the stock sounds or are these the sounds from the independently purchased Garritan package?

Currently using Garritan. Other comments have me about convinced to ditch it this weekend.pierso20 wrote:Are you using the stock sounds or are these the sounds from the independently purchased Garritan package?

So you use it with finale?
If you do like the sounds to provide a decent MIDI sample, you could always just use the external garritan program. Then you could still get those sounds without dealing with your issue. Other than that, I'm sorry you can't make it work. I love having those "decent" sounds while writing. But I can understand your frustration.
Really, it sounds to me like there is a corrupt file somewhere. Even an "un-install" won't get rid of everything. Sometimes you have to dig and find the rest of those files and delete them. If it was truly fresh there shouldn't have been an issue. Have you noticed any other issues anywhere else? Did you get any updates necessary?

I can't get Finale to playback without using Garritan. I'm supposing this is because I installed them at the same time. I am not interested enough in computer systems to answer much else, I've always been an entranced software applications freak. I guess that makes me a plug and play guy with systems.
It was a truly fresh install. I used new discs from Dell to reformat and install the original software. Then I added my applications. I had not installed Garritan before so this was a new experience.
I have the XP Home edition of Windows. Still thinking of trying an un-install of everything and re-installing Finale, though it sounds like that may not fix the problem.
Still accepting ideas.....
Thanks.

What version of Finale and what version of Garritan? If you had never actually installed Garritan before it could be simply that your computer isn't powerful enough. In order to run Garritan within finale you need a decent amount of power and free cpu. I had some similar issues until I upgraded my set-up. May not solve anything for you...who knows. Good luck though. I find the sounds very much worth it, but if it causes that much headache then maybe not.

Re: Finale playback problem
I use Finale with Garritan. It is not easy to make it work well if there is many instruments. And I have a recent PC and Windows7.
Finale is full of bugs. But I don't have the patience to learn to use Sibelius. At least in Finale I know the bugs...
