FS: Karl Hammerschmidt German Tuba **SOLD**

Full disclosure up front the tuba plays great and is in great shape, but there are no marking as to the make or serial numbers, after looking at the usual sites and seeing what I could find the closest match I could find was tubas made by Karl Hammerschmidt. Now if anyone else has any other info please pass it along and I will update the listing.

Completely cleaned and adjusted. 3/4 size Tuba. Key of CC, 13.5" upright bell, 35 inches tall, 4 rotary valves. I have gone through and removed all major dents, valves have all been cleaned, new corks, tightened, and aligned. There is no wear on any of the valves and they are all tight with great compression and pop. All the slides have been removed, cleaned, greased, and now move very freely. The tuba is in raw brass and comes with a brand new gard gig bag and a mouthpiece.

If you are looking for a small 3/4 size CC tuba this is a great tuba, it has the classic german sound and sounds a lot like a mirafone 184 in the low and mid range and in the high range more like a meinl weston. It sounds and plays great.

Could you elaborate on this? What do you mean by it sounding like a meinl-weston in the high range?

People always ask what a tuba sounds like or plays like, and with this type of unique tuba I thought it would be good to talk about how what it plays like. You do not see many 3/4 CC tubas out there for sale or being made now a days.

So when I was restoring this tuba it took a while to get it dialed in, once I did it worked like this, first of all the resonance, timbre, and sound remind me of a mirafone 184 CC. The style, craftmanship, and the way the tuba plays is a typical German Tuba. In the high range from a F on the fourth line to a Bb four lines above the staff the tuba has a very bright, light, and easy sloting. I noticed that when comapered to the low and mid range which has a rich, deep, and well defined slots that the tuba played in a unquie way. It really was a blending of two playing characterictics from two types of German makers.

I really like this tuba and thought about keeping it, but in the end I just could not justify keeping two of the same tubas, I already own a mirafone 184 CC five valve and have had the mirafone since college so I decided to keep my mirafone and sell the Karl Hammerschmidt.
