This from a man of science !

OK brightbuns, tell me why not !
This is a major thing between me and my girl.
The design of the trap in the drain of many sinks often results in bits of stuff (soap and hair, mostly) that sometimes won't easily rinse away. If you have ever done any plumbing repair you will know this. Add pee to the mix and it will probably stink!

A toilet or urinal has a more vigorous self cleaning action when it flushes, and the drain is (hopefully) unobstructed.

Aren't you glad you asked?

This calls back to mind an old joke

Two men overheard talking in the pub " my wife has disgusting habits! Every time I go to pee in the sink it's full of dirty dishes"
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.

No!
I'm not satisfied with that answer for two reasons: I have done some plumbing and although you're right about the trap being non evacuating,
the flush factor is tiny after a load of urine preflushes it. It seems to become diluted enough.
Reason #2 is that I've bin peeing in my sink for over ten years and although my pee smells as much as anyone's, my sink dosen't, even after asparagus !
Snip. .
It is not just the trap - the linkage that operates the sink stopper (if you have one- and the same thing if you have a tub-shower with a built in stopper ) is also a place where stuff accumulates.
Another point (and I am not being sexist) - women generally usually have a higher sense of smell. What may be unnoticeable to you might be very obvious to her!

Same for me. I'm still working on the classics: lacquer or silver, BBb or CC, etc.

cktuba wrote:OK, the question begs to be asked... Why in the world would you pee in the sink when there is a perfectly good toilet (most likely) 2 paces away? Is it some kind of California water conservation thing?

C (who when nature calls and I'm in nature, far away from facilities, has peeed on all sorts of things... But never in a sink or shower when there's a perfectly good toilet in the same room) K
+1

Does anyone know what 'barbaric' means? This thread illustrates what should be a dictionary example!

Re the original link, unfortunately the webpage belongs to a lighting company, not to one that sells plumbing fixtures. I'd still like to see those urinals in a catalog somewhere so interior designers could present them to clients as a real choice and not just a one-off novelty.
