I had a 28J once. It had a 22" flare and a very small stem. It was a front-action horn though. Strange looking horn!

It played OK. ... just OK in my opinion, anyway. Understandably, those horns were built in the day when 'bigger was better'. I saw, but did not play, a helicon with that same exaggerated flair into a very large bell. They take on a cartoonish visual aspect when the bell is out of proportion like that.
