York v. Holton standard BBb

Post by TheHatTuba »

Holton:

York:

Was there two wraps used by York for their standard BBb? I thought Holtons of the same vintage were stenciled Yorks, but the wrap on these two are a bit different.

What term was used to describe 19" bell, 32"-33" length BBb tubas?

On the York, the circumference of the small end of the bell where it goes into the ferrule is only 15", according to the seller. (I asked.) That makes the diameter about 4 3/4". Too small for a "monster".

I don't think so. Holton made their own horns since 1898. I have two Chicago-made Holton Eb's, and two Elkhorn-made Holtons (BBb & Eb). They are definitely NOT "York stencils"... :!:

Holton had its own full production facilities and had made plenty of tubas in the Chicago plant so why would they go to a compeditor to produce them a state away? They look sort of the same but no, York did not make Holton's tubas. Who started that rumor anyway?
