Internationally-renowned euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead will be giving the world premiere of Frank Gulino's new piece "Infinite Escape" on Thursday, July 26 at the University of Arizona, where he will be giving a guest artist recital in conjunction with Low Brass Boot Camp 2012.
"Infinite Escape" is the work resulting from the inaugural commission project by the http://www.EuphoniumCommissions.org" target="_blank repertoire consortium, and will be available from Cimarron Music Press (http://www.cimarronmusic.com" target="_blank).

Tomorrow evening's recital will begin at 7:00pm local time at the University of Arizona's Holsclaw Hall in Tucson, AZ. Steven Mead will be accompanied by pianist Gail Novak.

Always good to watch, listen and learn from Mr Mead's confident playing and solid interpretation, but the music itself is a bit thin, like eating only romaine lettuce, or something.
Euphers may better be served by continuing to dredge up works from the past and adopt them for the instrument.

I like the piece. It's very American and has a bit of a cowboy tune feel. Steven's confident and effortless playing makes the piece come to life.
