The horn professor here has it and uses it in his lessons. I took a lesson from him a couple of years ago when I was working on Strauss #1. I was impressed and see how valuable it could be in a studio.

Count me as a supporter of Smart Music. We use it in my program, and my kids have downloaded it to their home machines. You did not mention that it is FREE. That's right, free. The basic software (with a wonderful tuner, metronome and several exercises ) is downloadable at no charge. The accompaniment files are available by subscription. If your school purchases six subscriptions, students may purchases a subscription for $20 per year and have access to EVERY file SM has created. If what you want is not included in the SM catalog, you can create a file with Finale (this is what I end up doing the most for my students). I, too, am not paid by Coda, but I love this software. A SM exchange is a great idea.

Smart Music is really great. My University has a subscription so that we can boot it up on the computers in the practice rooms and practice right along with it. More and more solo accompaniments are being put in, but what I find to be very beneficial are the accompaniments for the Bordogni etudes. This provides a very GREAT foundation for working with accompaniment as well as helping your intonation. You never know how well in or out of tune you are until you put it up to something with constant tuning.

As mentioned earlier, the price really can't be beat if you have enough uses for it.

The best part about it I think is that with a microphone, it actually waits for you on fermatas and such. It's indeed just as smart as it suggests it is. CHECK IT OUT! :D

My school ordered Smartmusic, but it never seemed to work correctly. I don't think the microphone was working, or perhaps the computer I was using just wouldn't support it. I see, however, that if it was working correctly, it could be a good practice tool.

Just think of all the lip-synching (?) pop stars!!

Imagine the outrage if tuba players started pulling finger-synch solos. They'd be tarred and feathered.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the link for a free download of the basic software. If someone can find it please post a link.
