B&S PT-6P Clone @ TE

Anybody see this "new" horn? Looks like a B&S PT-6P clone...

Hi-
This looks like the Wisemann CC PT-6P clone---the TE price is better than the U.S. Wisemann rep quoted me--Wisemann U.S. won't carry this horn, you had to pay up front and it would be shipped from China--shipping charges extra. I was quoted $5900+ plus shipping for lacquer, and $6500+ plus shipping for it in silver with gold trim.
If this is indeed the Wisemann clone with TE's name on it, it will be interesting to actually try it to see how it compares to the original PT-6P.

I think that would be much more appropriately priced (and competitive) at 3-4000, no more. Perhaps it will drop once more folks start selling it.

Why? Why possibly do you think this could be sold for that money? Considering the instrument they "cloned" is in the $12-13k range street price, that's asking a lot for any manufacturer.
If it's indeed a good instrument, if Mickey was in on this one it will be, I'm sure, under $6k is a great price. Vince is not one to try and pull one over on the tuba community, he'd be stupid to put a bigger than normal markup on something like that.

Besides, you haven't played it, Bob. You only saw a picture. And read a little bit. Not a lot of basis for a self-proclaimed authoritative statement of its worth.

I'd like to say I want to get a new Camaro for $10k. It just won't happen.

I think the point is that a "for real" used PT6 can be had for not all that much over $6k, so at that price, what the point? $6k is too much, I don't think it necessarily needs to be sold for less, as much as maybe it doesn't need to sold at all (or without the expectation that it's there to to undersell the original).

Further, 3 years after you purchase a clone for 6k, you will probably not likely sell it for more than $5500.* OTOH, there's a chance you could sell a used PT6 for exactly what you paid for it (if not more).


*A guess, but it seems that people have purchased instruments, invested in repairs, bag and mouthpieces and not recuperated any of their investment. Added to that, the cost of shipping will likely have to be absorbed into the buyer's loss.


So, as Bob said, at 3-4k this would be a much more popular item.

FWIW, there were 2 or 3 used Rudy 5/4 CC tubas for sale in Montreal last year for around 6k and, as I recall it, they didn't fly off the shelves.


Asking for a 5k 6/4 Rudy, is basically like saying that this PT6 copy should be $1500. That would be fine by me.

Every other copy runs a third or (much less) OF the original. Why should this one be half of a new original and knocking on the door of used ones?

I tried it at the 2012 Musikmesse.

It played like a PT6P including the sluggish stainless valves. The intonation and response weren't as good as my PT6P, but it sounded similar. How it "felt" was something else...
I recall the adjustable thumb ring was already broken.
