Great hairdo of yours on the Pitcher polka! If Wanda sees that, she will destroy your clipper.
And then the clarinet counter lines in Haywagon polka are very good.
I am no so thrilled by a saxophone on the tenor line, but then I see the point of doublers to keep costs down.
As I hear it, you put in a few bits that are not in the written part. I like that.

For me, these videos solidify what a great musician Bill is. I first heard him 25 or so years ago soloing with the Texas Jr. College All-State band playing the Gregson on a 188. I havee made it a point to catch Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition (a great western swing/classic country band) whenever I could mainly to hear Bill's great bass playing. Sadly, Bill no longer plays with Billy (by Bill's choice) so he doesn't make it up my way very often but I hope to hear him on his Kanstul sometime. Besides all that, Bill is a heckuva a nice guy and a true gentleman.
...and that's all I'm going to say about that...

Doc,
I don't know you personally and am in no position to judge, but having listened to tuba players for over half a century I know that is a good example of stellar ad lib playing.
The best part about it is the preservation via that good recording for all of us to enjoy at will.
Kudos.

Doc,
You mentioned that Polkacatalog.com had some other recordings that you played on. Any chance you could identify a few--I'd love to hear more of your tuba lines. I can only wish that my head arrangements in the old days of playing at the Hofbraugarten in Dickinson, TX (roughly 40 years ago) had been half that good.
I'm eager to hear more. I'd love to hear more of that sound you got out of the Rudy also.

Shouldn’t the tuba play lead in all bands?
What type of instrument does the drummer play? Sort of cajón?
