Whats the best recording of...
Persichetti's Symphony No 6 for Windband. There's so many of them?

If you are conducting it, listen to them all and then make your own interpretation. Listen on YouTube as well. The good, the bad and the ugly are all valuable!

Note to Davetubaking,
If you are able, try recording your tuba/euph ensembles using a pair of RCA 77DX mics.
They are a vintage ribbon velocity type, and give some of the best definition to brass instruments of any mic.
Keep them away from pianos and women, they make both sound funny.
I learned this tip from Doc Severinsen in a studio years ago.

Re: Whats the best recording of...
Well thanks for the advice Dennis but I don't have a tuba ensemble, not a live fleshy one, I only have the virtual VSL tuba players and they've already been recorded.
Has no one got a favourite recording of the persichetti?

Re: Whats the best recording of...
Dave, I have several recordings. My favorite today is the USAF Tactical Air Command Band - Lowell Graham, Conductor - on their CD "Fireworks for Band". Other great performances on this CD are To Tame the Perilous Skies - Holsinger, Fantasies on a Theme by Hayden - Dello Joio, and Fantasy Variations on a Theme by Niccolo Paganini - Barnes. I believe it was recorded in 1990.
This is another fine recording and is commercially available.

The performance by North Texas is excellent and is performed with wonderful clarity.
