Polka mass
Anybody been to one? Play in one? I just found out that such services occur and am curious about attending. Anecdotes from any denomination welcome.

Re: Polka mass

Re: Polka mass
Doc has it pretty much right. Responses, hymns, all that stuff is German style, not necessarily polka all the time, could be a landler or schottische as well. Or whatever. To me, as a now ex-Catholic, it's fun, but it doesn't do anything spiritually for me. It's quite possible that there are some places that do the polka mass regularly, so the whole thing could be different. I did one several years in a row, but only once a year. It was for the church's Oktoberfest day, and they did a special type ceremony too. We played a few normal polka tunes before and after mass, and at communion.

Re: Polka mass
Google "Polka Mass" and you'll get a lot of examples to get an idea of what it is like. This is a Central Wisconsin tradition played on special occasions. Octoberfest or community festivals are the most common times you see these played. It is very popular.
