I tried one of these at the Laabs store in the Twin Cities and wasn't impressed with it in any way. That said, I only spent a few minutes with it, but with just the first run through a Bb scale it had some issues that I just didn't feel like trying to deal with.

Mack Brass sells this horn. It is actually a Jinbao 520L. Here's a link to his page http://www.mackbrass.com/MACK-TU520L__BBb_Tuba.php and there are some links on it to YouTube recording of the horn.

I tried at the factory and was not impressed enough with this model to want to stock. The rotary valve version JBBB-500 I found much, much better with spot on tuning throughout the range and good tone.

That link looks just like the little piston valve Barrington tuba they've had at the NAMM Show for the last several years. I tried it each time I was at the show and I considered it a waste of time, not a good player at all.

Just gone and blown one to remind myself. Actually very good low register - surprisingly open. I would not mind playing with small band.Bob Kolada wrote:How's the low range on that rotary one?
I will try to put up YouTube demonstration video to demonstrate, although the iPhone does not really pick up the depth of sound so well.

Re: Has anyone bought one of these (Chinese) tubas?
I have brought a few of these in and they are not bad. I still am not happy with using them at the middle school level as they are a little on the large side for a 12 year old kid. Have not bought them in a while but those that have bought them thought they were good for the money. I am still looking for something to replace this model with. I think the horn is about 90% there but not totaly sold on it so I may be pulling it from my line.
