Mr. Tuba - Harvey Phillips Autobiography

It would be a commercial message if I wrote an autobiography or Sean wrote one but it is news when Harvey Phillips writes one.

During his last years, this was Harvey's work and it has just been released by Indiana University Press. I just received my copies yesterday and started reading it, 479 pages with lots of pictures talking about various subjects. I can not put the book down!

I am surprised the book is less than 500 pages and, in fact, less than 5,000 pages. I am also surprised at its title. Harvey was a great deal more than a tubist, although many consider him the greatest to have ever played. Harvey was a builder, family, education system, interest, coalitions, tuba groups; you name it; it was his bent to build something. Harvey once told me that: "as great a tuba player as Bill Bell was, he was an even better musician." As great a tubist as Harvey Phillips was, he was a greater former of groups and group activity.

When Brian and I happened to be staying at the Tuba Ranch, one week-end, we saw Harvey working on the autobiography and they were discussing how it would be impossible to make it under 1400 pages. He had so much to say. I was wondering who edited it down to its published size. I am anxious to get it and read it, Will it be an "e-book?"
