How I spent Last Friday
Last friday, Sept. 21, I got to play for the arrival ceremonies of the Space Shuttle Endeavour at LAX. We had a double orchestral brass section (6 trumpets, 8 Horns, 6 Trombones, 2 tubas and 3 Percussion). We played Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man and then a terrific arrangement of America the Beautiful (by Jim McMillen who also played trombone on the gig) for brass, percussion and Tenor soloist. It was amazing. When we finished the fanfare, this is what was directly behind me:
