Places to practice
To anyone that is not in school,
When you live in an apartment where you cant practice, what places did you go to for daily practice? Just curious.

Re: Places to practice
Do you belong to a church? The sanctuary is a wonderful place to practice a big horn. Or if you are near a community center there may be a large room there you could use, particularly if you were flexible enough to use the "down time" when the rooms are empty.
And despite the humorous nature of the cartoon above, if you are in a warm climate you'll find it beneficial to do at least some of your practice outdoors. Because you don't have a room to help reflect your sound, one can tend to develop better breath support this way.

I had a VW van that I drove to a public park (not too far away from my apartment.) I never had a bit of trouble!

Harvey used to practice in the back of his station wagon while Carol drove.

Re: Places to practice
I live in a house that is stuck to the wall neighbor!
I have a serious problem with it, has threatened to kill me, and I represented the police! I do not know what else to do, I made a homemade soundproofing, but I see I'll have to do a professional, which costs a lot of money!! Lately I've been studying in the parking lot of a park near my house ...

Re: Places to practice
I sometimes practice 'funny hours' and was under the impression that my neighbors actually didn't hear me when using the schliph.
I have great neighbors!
Other than that.....Due to supervisory duty (through my daughter school-band) I have master key to two nearby schools.
and also the bands rehearsal room, but that one is also predisposed by the local culture school.
Guess I'm lucky.....

Re: Places to practice
The key is finding an isolated place that has acoustics that don't distort your sound. Part of that is when do you practice. Even a duplex with a shared wall can work if your practice schedule does not disturb others. I've found that a little negotiation ahead of time helps with neighborly relations. Now I practice at the lake on the dock and the loons sometime join in. My neighbors are very accommodating.........

Re: Places to practice
I recently had a recording session in a NYC apt. He uses a ~5x6 whisper room to record and practice in. No complaints, apparently list price is about 6K. Not small change but useful in a complaining neighbor situation.

I also live an apt. I've played a little with no neighborly complaints, but not gonna push my luck. The college fine arts building is close, so I guess that's an option. Might be awkward though, since I've already graduated

Re: Places to practice
I found 2 friends with similar problems and we rented a place a short drive out of town.
Not having a decent place to practice is bad for business if, like me, you live off gigs.
For those who don't, the sharing thing can work. Finding a suitable place can be tricky. We're on a farm ... which is remarkable as I live in London!

Re: Places to practice
I know the OP said "people not in school", but whatever. This is where I usually practice. Breezeway in front of the recital hall at Umiami. I don't like practice rooms, plus they're always occupied anyway
