Silent Brass and Special FX

Post by fenne1ca »

Has anybody ever experimented with special effects via Silent Brass and an amplifier/effects pedal? I'm intrigued to know if something like the "guitar" solos in this video has ever been attempted on tuba.

Maybe not with the silent brass, specifically, but it's been done a lot. I can't point to any recordings, but it seems Jon Sass and Joe Exley have plenty of experience with this.

Oh, check out Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy recordings. Again, not with the silent brass, but certainly with fx. Any bass pedals would work better than guitar stuff; I experimented with it 20 years ago, but never used it on a gig.

Mouthpiece / leadpipe pickup is handy.

Try the boss synth bass pedal.
