There was a bigger sound coming from the "back row" at last night's band rehearsal. Our principal tubist (tubaist?) just acquired a Conn 34J... made in 1934 if I remember right. What a sound!! He shared a couple of pictures with me and said it was okay to post on here. The horn in his lap is his CB-50 — which kinda looks like an 'over-sized' euphonium next to his 34J.

Courtesy of Jim Newell (aka the Tubameister of Eugene) my new to me King sousaphone. My "sweat equity" contributions were to strip the valveset of lacquer and to remove some of the bracing, using a torch. Jim was able to patch the holes quite nicely

Slightly pornographic - my newly restored (by Dan Schultz) Alexander BBb. Looks as good as it plays now.

Oh, I enjoy it :-) And use it regular at the moment in a Brass Band

I asked the question here "what do you mean by fun to play?" I get it!
A tad challenging intonation wise in lower register. The 3rd partial open F
was trivial. I was more surprised by the sharp below staff C

Other than that, it plays easily chromatic down to BBb only by using
one privileged tone for ease of use (Cc on 3rd).

Didn't know I'd enjoy this instrument so much. And VERY impressed by
the mid register and upper/above staff
