I had no idea that Ms. Weldon had any ties to the BSO. As far as I know, Mr. Smith did ALL the recordings with the Pops prior to Chesters tenure. Dave Townsend, who studied with Smith, could say for sure, but I don't know if he even posts here.
Lee Richardsen had some records with Mr Smith. The only one I remember had the theme from "The Munsters" on it. I have a Mahler 1 recording with the BSO that i'm pretty sure is him too. Ed
All due (and MUCH deserved) respect to Connie, but the Boston Pops Touring Orchestra is NOT a major US orchestra. Well-known, yes. But she wasn't the principal in the BSO. I doubt there are any recordings from Kansas City...I don't know of any they did before the 70s. That doesn't mean they didn't, but I've never heard of them. Bob Eliason may know something about it, too. I'll call a friend who was in the KCPhil at that time, see what he says.
Again respectfully, Acting is not having the gig. Connie broke ground in many ways, and both the Pops and the Concertgebouw are significant, but nitpicking or not, it was a temp job.
I'm glad she didn't get it permanently, in a way...too much important stuff happened in Miami.
Totally, unrelated. I met Connie backin 1971, she came to Minnesota from the U of Miami and did a Masters
type of class at my HS. As a result of her visit, we immediately acquired MW model 20 rotary tubas, She, and her
playing was what fired me up about playing tuba for fun. So that is 40 plus years ago, and I'm still playing.
