Re: Very rare Mississippi style CC tuba
Thanks for pointing this out LJV. It is one of those rare CCb tubas when played without the bell.

The advertised 4th valve must be in the bell, too.

Re: Very rare Mississippi style CC tuba
I asked the seller about the CC thing since these look like BBb horns. Interesting to see what he says.

Actually, the 4th valve is there. It's just hidden behind the third valve tubing in this picture. A picture at another angle would show it. (You can recognize it with the tubing coming out of it and going up to the top bow). Granted, the picture quality is terrible.Uncle Buck wrote:The advertised 4th valve must be in the bell, too.

I stand corrected. You are absolutely right.PMeuph wrote:Actually, the 4th valve is there. It's just hidden behind the third valve tubing in this picture. A picture at another angle would show it. Update:
According to the seller, the horn is in "C" because the first letter in the serial number is "c". I sent him some links to info to, hopefully, straighten out the issue.
By the serial number he gave me, they were made in 1964 or 65.

Can't say for sure from the picture if the 4th piston was there. But.... the 4th valve circuit and casing is visible!Uncle Buck wrote:The advertised 4th valve must be in the bell, too.

The only thing more ignorant than the ebay seller's post is your negative reference to Mississippi. As a Floridian who has happened to hear many Mississippi bands with incredible tuba sections, "Mississippi style" can be considered a compliment. Let's keep our state prejudices to ourselves. Not funny and not what a divided nation needs right now.
