original works for organ and brass quintet?

Post by Jack Denniston »

We have a lot of good arrangements and transcriptions. What we're looking for are original works for organ and brass quintet- any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jack

About ten years ago I played a piece called "Images of Southern Religion" for organ and brass quintet. The composer is James Sclater and you can read about him here:

I remember liking the piece--the tuba part was fairly active and interesting. I don't remember many other details--we put it together in very few rehearsals with a pick-up group and only performed it once. Here's a review of a 2001 performance--I played this in Birmingham in 2002 with the same organist.

David Sampson's "Fanfare for Canterbury Cathedral" was originally for double brass quintet but was also scored for quintet and organ--I don't know if that counts as an arrangement for you or not. I hope that helps!

But only if your organist wears the fluffy dress...

Suite for organ and brass quintet by Craig Phillips. Great piece!

My quintet collaborated with an organist and released a CD of almost all original Organ and Brass quintet rep. minus one collection of Gabrieli that our trombonist put together. It was hard to find enough music so we commissioned two pieces for the project. The pieces we found and liked were

Confitemini Domino by Carlyle Sharpe
Septimi Tempi by Robin Dinda
Three Impromptus by Jessica Hunt - GBQ Commission
Piece Heroique by Ivan Jevtic
Chorale Prelude: Lord of All Hopefullness by John Cheetham - GBQ Commission
Diletto Te Deum Op. 118 by Bernhard Krol
Fanfare for Canterbury Cathedral ny David Sampson

For some more information about the project, check out our website http://www.gaudetebrass.com" target="_blank and there are sound clips and the CD for sale.
