Want to buy euphonium – need information

Hello to all

I know, that this is mostly about Tuba, but I have a question concerning euphoniums. A friend of mine want's to learn euphonium and I help her to find a used one to start.
I saw some interesting instruments and I hope you can help me with some additional information or maybe someone of you has played the one or the other horn an can tell me how they play.
I found the following horns, they are all in the range of 950$:

- Besson Euphonium 700 (SN 766-737493)
- Besson Euphonium New Standart (SN 532432)
- Jupiter Euphonium JEP-470 (no more information)
- Arnolds & Sons Euphonium (no more information)
- B&B Euphonium 1000 (no more information)

And on Ebay you'll find some of these old Conn and King front bell, front action euphoniums / baritone horns. What do you think of these?

If I only had $950 to spend on a euphonium, I would look for a good used YEP-321 and have a large shank receiver added on to it.
I would also look for a used King 2266/2268.

Of the horns you mention, I have never heard of the last two and "New Standard" was not a specific model but rather a line. I would check to see if it is in High Pitch or Low Pitch before buying anything. A "New Standard" could be a 3 valve or a 4 valve compensator. (A 4 valve at the price you mention would be worth it)

Many of the models you mention definitively need tested before you buy them.

Thanks for your answers so far. She needs the euphonium to play in a carnival band, where the musical standard isn't that high, so an instrument for about 1'000$ would be ok for her. And three valves will be enough as well.

The 201 is the same horn as their 321, minus the 4th valve. I have snagged good used ones for under 500 bux, in the off-season.

Of the classic American brands, the bellfront King is the best circus screamer. It almost automatically plays the trio countermelody of Barnum & Bailey's.

Same quest as before, with the small sousaphones etc.?

These baritones sound like good instruments - the YEP 201, the old King/Olds/Conn - if they're in good condition. My first thought was, don't worry about 4 valves, but if it is to play more of a bass role than would normally be expected with a baritone horn, the 4th valve will be useful. It's really possible to play bass parts on baritone horn, after a fashion - I've seen it done pretty well in a small Bavarian band.

Not exactly the same question. I'm interessted in a small sousaphone, the euphonium would be for a friend of mine.
And yes, in the band she plays mostly bass lines.
