Local Community Concert Band Gets Publicity

Post by gwwilk »

A reporter for the local newspaper and a photographer attended the first hour of last Monday's Lincoln Community Concert Band rehearsal, at the (unsolicited by me) urging of my sister. They were quite diligent and thorough in interviewing and photographing band members and our conductor. The result was a surprise article that covered the front page of today's entertainment section and extended onto the next page. The tuba section didn't make the photo spread, though. This article should boost the attendance at tomorrow's Mannheim Steamroller only Christmas concert. Sometimes publicity needs a little nudge, but it can be there for the asking. :tuba:

We had a similar experience this weekend. We sent out an announcement that got just a little blurb on a local news web site here:
http://gwdtoday.com/main.asp?SectionID= ... leID=22875.

The actual newspaper ran with it in a big way, though. They printed a feature that took up nearly the whole front page of one of the inner sections, but unfortunately they didn't put it on their web site, so I can't link it. It was a tremendous piece, though. I would say we had 500 people at our concert yesterday no doubt partly as a result of that article. By far the largest crowd we've ever had.

Our turnout was similarly awesome. We had a packed recital hall, with standing room only, for the first time ever. Even Tubajug was there as I learned from him at our Capitol Rotunda Tuba Christmas today.

And a good time was had by all. :tuba:

I was there with my whole family! He's not kidding when he said it was standing room only. We got there at 7:20 (it started at 7:30) and we had trouble finding four chairs in a row for our family. By the time it started, there really were people standing around listening!

Our 4 1/2 month old, Elsa, was very good through the whole thing. We were a bit afraid that she would get startled by some of the big "hits" during the concert, but she was an angel!

And the band played phenomenally! Kudos to Jerry for getting it in the paper!
