I'm in college and I finally put together a brass quintet but I need some help. I need some ideas of good pieces to play. I want our group to be challenged but not to the point where it's not fun. We have a beast trombone player and a very good horn player. Our trumpets are very capable and also they have a pretty large note range. I like to consider myself pretty good on tuba as well.
So far I have copies of Ain't Misbehavin, Canzon Bergamasca, and Ewald's Quintet #1. For our horn player, I would like to get a copy of Rondo from Horn quintet K407 (Canadian Brass's Magic horn CD). I really don't know what to look for past that but I do know that I would like to have some pieces that feature an instrument and enough pieces that every instrument is featured.
We probably won't play a concert anytime soon. I'd like to be able to hand out a lot of different music so that we can play together for a semester to see how we sound together, find our strengths and weaknesses, and see what kind of music we enjoy playing. That said, I would love to hear any suggestions y'all might have.
Thanks!
Nick
