Hi,
A friend (a senior citizen) asked me if I knew of any euphonium teachers near his home in Belleville, MI. I'm in PA and know nothing of what might be available in his area. Can any of you provide some names/locations? He has an instrument but hasn't played in a good many years and says he would need to start fresh.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
Pete

Gail Robertson is an excellent teacher! I've known Gail for about 12 years. You can read her bio here: http://www.gailrobertson.com/biography/

I also want to second the recommendation for Gail Robertson. Having worked with her at symposiums and in the New Sousa Band, I can attest to her amazing skills as a musician, teacher, and arranger. As long as she'll take you on as a student, Gail is a first rate choice. Just be ready to work hard, she is demanding of her private students. Those that don't deliver get shown the door...
My opinion for what it's worth...

Re: Euphonium Teachers in MI?
This video kind of raises the question whether we at all should recommend playing the euphonium to any male. Apparently playing this instruments inhibits hair growth in 2/3 of its male players. Independent of height, weight, colour, or continent of origins. I haven’t checked if the problem is related to specific brands of euphoniums, but this problem certainly calls for a thorough investigation at the level of a doctoral thesis.Casca Grossa wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IfWDuvlN-c

I don't know if Gail or much less likely Fritz would have openings for a non-university student. Ken Kroesche would be a great choice if he has the time although Rochester Hills is a decent haul from Belleville. He is also pretty busy teaching low brass at OU, running their Brass Band among other duties. I'm sure there are grad students at U of M that would be good choices.

If you can sort through the unrelated and unhelpful posts about Sasquatch-esque nature of Euph players in Michigan, cracks about hair growth, and other treasures here and find this post; PM me for the names and contact info of several talented low brass players and teachers in the Bellville, MI area (30min drive radius) Including several of us in the studio of Professor Robertson at EMU who would be happy to accommodate you.
