Fafner recording?

Post by bort »

Can anyone point me towards some recordings in which the tuba player used a MW Fafner?

Thanks! :tuba:

I believe that any of the recent recordings of the Vienna Philharmonic will most likely feature Paul Halwax on his hand made rotary Fafner.

There's a short YouTube video of two guys playing a Fafner and Fasolt (? do not remember) in an orchestra playing some Russian piece with like a billion Wagner tubas.

Ah ha!

I think that in most cases he would play the Wiener F tuba, so you would more specifically have to look for new recordings of Kontrabasstuba-music.

Yasuhito Sugiyama uses one on the big German stuff; he may be using it on the Bruckner 6 DVD, IIRC. He sounds awesome on it, and it's my favorite horn he plays.

Looks like he is playing on his F. Gosh... what a beautiful performance from Mr. Fossi!

That's a Paul Halwax on a Fafner and Christoph Gigler playing a 5/4 Rudy Meinl. The piece is Prokofiev's "Ivan the Terrible." The best part of the vid is the trombone reaction to the tuben...
