shipping on bus?

I am of the opinion that Greyhound is an excellent way to ship anything bigger than a breadbox! ... that obviously includes tubas.

Think of it this way....if a tuba, in a box or whatever, were to fall off of a bus, it's going to fall only a foot or 18". Off of a truck, possibly a lot farther.

I didn't see the horn I sent via Greyhound, but by the recipient's account it sounded like they found some way to subject it to more force than that.

I've sent and received tubas and tuba cases via Greyhound without any issues. Many Greyhound shipping experience have been reported here, not all of them positive. Do a forum search to read all about that.

I urge you to make sure you understand how Greyhound shipping works before you go for it: the minimal level of service / no tracking / no insurance / no sense of urgency / nobody answering the phone at the station(s) / potential security - handling issues.

If you're willing to accept the risks (or the buyer is), it is a pretty economical way to ship fairly large items like tubas. The best way to get a tuba from point A to point B is still to drive it yourself.

I received my jumbo sousaphone via greyhound....it was only wrapped in bubble-wrap....well lots of bubble-wrap.

It showed up just fine. I probably did more damage to it by trying to get it home on the train from downtown Chicago.

From what I could tell... Having it shipped to a BIG packaing center (downtown Chicago for me)....helped out. More responsive personnel and better facilities to handle large goods.
