Christmas Eve ensemble, Dublin, MD United Methodist Church.... earlier this fall they had put out a call for some brass players to augment some of their own musicians. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot too!

That front action Eb looks interesting. Is it a Boosey cavalry tuba?

Any chance you could get me a good photo documentation of that tuba?

The band have two Calvary tubas one eb made by The Regent Instrument Company Edgeware Road and the Bb in the picture which I think is a Regent also.
The band fitted out with new instruments in 1937 all were high pitch and converted in the fifties by an instrument repair shop in Dublin.

John Gannon the player holding it has been playing it since it was new and still manages to make it sing on occasion.

I would be happy to photograph the instrument for you and the Eb one as well it will be next Wednesday before I see it again.

I wondered if it was a BBb, but I never saw one before, and it looks like having very small bore inner tubing.

A photo series of each and some comparative photos would be very welcome.

In which town is the St. James band?

The house behind the old band has a funny structure. To me it looks like the barns used to dry the bricks before they go to the oven.

The band are based in Mount Brown in Dublin close to Guinness Brewery the structure in the background is more than likely a leather tannery as the bands nickname was the Skinners Band due to the bulk of the members being leather workers.
It has existed under the name of St James since 1800 and has appeared in records as a Band of Musike going back to 1737.
Before the creation of the Irish Army School of music in the late 1920s the band provided music at many state occasions including the state funeral of Michael Collins.

I am fairly sure about the Besson 982 Eb. And the big one with the nail polish very well be a Willson CC. But I have no ideas about the ladyphone and the left wing.

Far left is a Yamaha Custom 822 4p + 1r in F. I used it for most of our concert comprising marches.

The Willson is a rare model 3050RZ, with 4+ 1 Rotax valves in CC. I brought it in for The Montagues and the Capulets, from Prokoviev's Romeo and Juliet. The black fingerpads were on the paddles when I got the horn nearly new. All reports were that the walls rattled with the pesante pedal tones down to Db.

Jessica has a new BBb, and our new member with the tuba tie has a new BBb St Pete I believe, but I will have to check on the models.
