Gig Bag for Martin Mammoth with Upright Bell
Does anyone know from experience if there are any gig bags that would fit a Martin Mammoth with top action valves and a Lee Stofer upright bell? The horn is a detachable bell model. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Altieri's made a bag for me, but two pieces. The body bag fits great...the bell, not so good for the front bell, but good enough for the upright bell. Mine is front
loaded valves, but the fit should be fine with the top valves as well.

I think that it is likely that Paul Scott will respond, but I'm pretty sure he had a Glenn Cronkite bag made for his horn.

Do not be insulted. The same thing happened to me. I wanted a Cronkhite leather gig bag for my 1932 King recording tuba. I went through the fine staff at hornguys.com and was told that Glen Cronkhite would not do a custom order for the bag as it would be "difficult" and that the return on the time and effort making a pattern would not be worth it. Judging by the number of recording bell horns that show up on TubeNet, I have a different opinion. Anyway, I went to David Messina at Messina Covers and he did a fabulous job in making a great bag for my horn. It is form fitting with plenty of foam and also has very sturdy hardware on it. Two blue pockets complete the bag which is red in colour and has sturdy straps on the back. I was happy to give David the chance to do this as he had already made a terrific bag for my MW 2145 CC horn. I had sent David my old gig bag which was made at a shop that made covers and tarpaulins for grain trucks. He used it as a pattern for the new bag.

I feel sure Donna at Altieri would be happy to custom make 1 for you. I have had 3 made. Lee also gets Altieri bags made so you could discuss your needs with him.

I use a Protec, for the 22' inch bell for my Martin. It's not Perfect but fits nice and snug and you just have to put the horn in backwards. Ed

Re: Gig Bag for Martin Mammoth with Upright Bell
Glenn did make me a very nice bag for the Martin. At that time, (2007, perhaps?) he sent me a long list of measurements which I completed. My thought at the time was that he would enter the measurements into a database allowing him to provide bags for other Martin owners.
Prior to the Cronkhite bag I used a ProTec bag, as was previously mentioned. It was by no means perfect but "serviceable".

I got it at Dillon's and they just list two for tubas. One will fit a 19in. bell and the other will fit a 22, I got the latter and it replaced one I used for 14 years. They're durable. The bigger one is right around 150 bucks. Ed
