Yet another B&S stencil - 'Crown' BBb tuba

Post by toobagrowl »

Just like the B&S 'Sonora' BBb. I like the fairly elaborate engraving on the bell.
Nothing spectacular, but should be a decent player:

There is also another B&S-made 'Accent' tuba w/case, just like some of the older UMI-labeled 'Musica' BBb tubas. Should be a good player:

Add these two to the ever-growing list of known B&S stencils. We're pretty sure B&S made at least some of the Sanders horns:

and here's the much-earlier B&S discussion I linked to in that thread:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=43102&hilit=cold+war+tubas" target="_blank

So far we have, to my knowledge (list updated 6-28-18):

Accent
Bach
Carl Wunderlich
Conn International
Courtois
Crown
Forza
Gerhard Schneider
Giardinelli
Hans Mueller
Hanstone
Hilgers
Karl Zeiss (or Ziess)
König
Lamar
L'Rae
Mercedes
Musica
Otto Weimar
Sanders
Schmidt (F.)
Sonora
Vespro
VMI
Walter Kroner
Weltklang

Any others?

Add 'Giardinelli' and 'Bach' to the list. They are 4/4 rotary BBb tubas. Probably others as well. It can be confusing because some of those brands are made by two or more manufacturers.

There is a "Mercedes' stencil. Not the Bach one, obviously. I've got a picture of one around here someplace...

Weltklang.
Had 2 when I lived in Dresden. Would still have them if I had cases.

Thanks- don't know how I missed that, since it appears in one of the threads I referenced....

BTW, the Crown has been relisted with a price drop. Someone please buy this tuba!

Conn International by B&S/Weltklang?

Weren't they by the Austran maker, that later on named the same models Musica?

Some of them might have been. As has been stated elsewhere, it's almost impossible to trademark something like "Musica", so if the same importer wasn't buying from different sources, another importer might have grabbed the name.

But we actually did see pics of a "Conn International" that came from B&S. The Craigslist post is gone, but here is our thread:
