Goofy Tuba!
Anyone know what this might be? (besides just a 'goofy tuba'!)

All I know about that horn, is that it goes with this band, which goes on this bridge!

Is that a Cerveny logo on the bell?

It looks like it wants to be an orenophone. But it's not...

In another video (the next one on the playlist for me) there is an awesome washboard solo! Very cool tuba though. Did they just flip the bell and outer bows? And obviously reshaped the leadpipe. Interesting indeed.

I like it. The valves are in a comfortable location relative to the leadpipe for stand-up playing and the bell is forward to the audience. It looks like the player has the horn suspended from a harness or neck strap.jacobg wrote:Is there an ergonomic advantage?
If I did a lot of stand-up playing... I would build one for myself!
I did a bit of searching for the name of the tuba player and didn't turn up much. The group is identified as "The Charles Bridge Band" in Prague. Good stuff!

Re: Goofy Tuba!
I think I have seen that horn in person. The band plays on one of the big bridges in Prague and the group I heard was called "Jazz, No Problem." I asked the owner about the horn - he had it made from two otherwise broken tubas but the only way to put them together was like that.
I know I posted a picture of it here many years ago, I will search for it.
Found it - it was a different horn with a similar set-up! Bell was tipped forward and lead pipe was wrapped slightly tighter on the top bow.

No - the white glove indicates that this is really Michael Jackson - who cleverly faked his death in order to play funky tuba on a bridge in Europe while disguising himself by wearing a burlap sack for a hat.talleyrand wrote:Must be Chinese, since it came with those white gloves!

If that were the case, he should be wearing only one white glove.tofu wrote:No - the white glove indicates that this is really Michael Jackson - who cleverly faked his death in order to play funky tuba on a bridge in Europe while disguising himself by wearing a burlap sack for a hat.talleyrand wrote:Must be Chinese, since it came with those white gloves!

Search: jazz no problem Prague and the pic is in a message I posted in 2009. On my iPhone now, can't seem to link it.
