Tuba Quintet on A Prairie Home Companion

Post by Mike Forbes »

I'm excited to announce that Garrison Keillor will be presenting the "Midwinter Tuba Quintet" on A Prairie Home Companion THIS Saturday, February 16th at 5 pm Central Time (live). I'm honored to be selected to play with this great group of low brass musicians including David Werden & Tom Ashworth on euphoniums and Nick Adragna & Ralph Hepola on tubas. Tune in to your local NPR broadcast on Saturday night at 6pm eastern or 5 pm central(or Sunday re-broadcast if available) and check it out!!

Regards,
Mike Forbes

You can also hear the show any time after Sunday noon by going to prairiehome.org. As a long-time fan of the show I am looking forward to hearing your group.

I heard the performace. Great job all. I do not recall GK acknowledging the individual members of the group though, as he usually does, and as he did with the fiddle group (maybe I missed it). I must admit to having never previously heard "Pleasures of Love" sung to a tuba quintet accompnaiment.

Thanks for listening all...it was great fun...as was the party at Garrison's house afterwards! The guy never stops entertaining--the whole cast gathered round the piano and sang through the night!

GK did acknowledge the tuba gang, btw, but only on the 2nd half.

Best,
Mike

GK pointed out the tubas right off the bat in the opening theme. "I hear the tuba, I look around for you..."
I heard a bit of the fiddle player at the beginning, and then had to get out the car and into a place where radio listening wouldn't have been appropriate, so I just got around to hearing the entire program today. Great playing.
