Since I haven't seen it before, I'll contribute. Andy and Frank Bowers of Montgomery Gentry were a class behind me and a class or two ahead of me in high school. This link is as good as any:

My High School marching band and pep band (Harry Ells and later JFK in Richmond, CA) had a trombone player who was good on bone, but much better on harmonica - after graduation he became known as Norton Buffalo and recorded with many groups including The Steve Miller Band, lead his own band for many years, and also was in "The Rose" with Bette Midler.

He was a good friend!

Others in my class went on to some fame in film, TV and legal/political worlds, but they were either in Orchestra or not in Band.

Bill Murray learned how to play tuba for Charlie's Angels. There's even a pic of he and Tommy Johnson together with sousaphones! I'm guessing he only played it for the movie and not much else. I saw Andy Griffith brought up earlier, I think he played trombone and tuba. I heard he was planning on being a band director but went into acting. He was also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

According to the book “Aretha Franklin: Singer,” Franklin joined the school band as a child, but was too late to play the instrument she truly wanted, the flute. Instead, she was given the only instrument left: the tuba.

The Famous Director, Tim Burton,was an alto saxophone player in the Burbank (California), Police Youth Band in the 70's. Don't know if he played at the high school because he participated in water polo for sure, and perhaps swimming.

I was told by a believed-to-be-reliable source that Francis Ford Coppola played tuba in high school.

Mike Francis played sax with us in high school in Yuma, AZ, back in the 67-71 era. He went on to perform with Asleep at the Wheel.

Out of your own Pacific Fleet Band came Bob Wilson, drums, who has been associated with several movie (Out Of Africa) and tv (Beretta) soundtracks as well as a drummer in the iconic christian fusion band, Seawind. Also, John Pastin a sax player who retired from the Navy as Director of the US Navy Band in DC. Both Bob and John were in the Pacific Fleet Band in the late 60's and early 70's.

I quit band as a junior in high school. I was working as a symphony musician and I was smug about it. It was the most stupid thing I did and, here it is 39 years later, I still regret it. My old high school band director ended up as the marching band director at a rival university when I was in college (the first time... I also quit school, but went back to earn four degrees, my bachelor's at age 31 and my doctorate in psychology at 51). Anyway, I did play in the marching band at the universities I went to (I was also one of those guys that went to seven universities to get my B.Mus.) and I knew that my old band director would be there. So I went in the stadium parking lot where he was waiting for his band and we met (both in our marching uniforms) and I apologized. And so did he. And let me tell you. That was one of the best things we both did in our lives...

What she does isn't music. A more accurate description would be crimes against music.
