Isn't that done already by Yamaha? Or have I dreamt about some robots playing trumpet, tuba and some other instrument? Yes, played the instruments. Must have been a dream, or?

Brian,

Billy goat's lips should be about the perfect size and shape. I doubt my landlord would miss a pair if he were to unknowingly donate some.

Keep it in mind that it doesn't have to be "original" !

Go for it Brian and we'll get you past the 200 reply mark in no time.
That other one barely passed 200. This will be MUCH bigger than Verdi AND you could do it in stealth mode. DON'T sell that tuba!

Brian... I also have a couple of ideas but don't really have the time to work on them. I guess it's going to have to be a simple matter of establishing some different priorities one of these days.

- Using magnetics to eliminate piston springs.
- Solenoids operated by a keypad that operate pistons or rotors to enable those with handicaps to keep playing.
- A collapsible detachable tuba bell that will fit into an attache case.
- More 'tune-on-the-fly' options a la Marzan main slides.
- A universal mouthpiece shank that's quickly and easily tuned.
- General ergonomic improvements.
and the list goes on.......

About the artificial embouchure... that one is a 'toughie'. There are many variables involved. Electronic tones don't work, either. Gotta have those 'chops' vibrations.

Ken Herrick, you have no clue about research and original work. I sent you a message and am waiting for a reply. Please don't ridicule others on this board.

Yeah Ken! Missouri has already proved in his 41 posts on this board that he is exceptionally smarter than everyone else here. Please make sure to bow in his presence or, at least salute the monitor whenever he is online!

I am staying out of the main topic. But the thing I can't get over right now is, this guy that's trying to tell us how research in the Liberal Arts is done when he doesn't even know the difference between "infer" and "imply."

Well, son, I read your second PM and frankly reckon you are full of it.
Using "jerk, rude, egotistical" is hardly reconciliatory.

You have no clue where I have been or what I have done.

I suspect your great experience base might have amounted to washing out artificial vaginas at the misery state jackass breeding station. Some scientific research experience that would be. Oh well, they say there is nothing dumber or more stubborn than a mizoo mule.

Why don't you go join the other coons in the corn field?

It's rather complicated, but it basically boils down to, bloke's to blame. The context that might have shed some light on the connection between raccoons and cornfields and the matter at hand seems to have suffered a self-referential fate.

Oops, I beg your pardon, not the matter at hand, which was the mechanical tuba player. Like the man said, those artificial lips look like a pretty daunting challenge, but it could be a fun hobby - rubber body parts that is. I know someone who makes an living from it, for medical applications like surgical training.

NO "RACIAL" INFERENCE INTENDED. If somebody feels offended by coon as in racoon, SORRY.

A.V.s are used for semen collection in livestock breeding programs, especially "scientific research stations".

"Cornfield" =hyperspace graveyard for unwanted posts or posters.

I am about as non-racist, anti-slavery, anti-exploitationist or otherwise non discriminatory as you can be.

Time for a beer.Bloke had nuthin to do with it.

How did this thread get derailed so quickly?

Missouri, its an online forum, you cant get offended by every other word... Well obviously you can, but you are making your own life hard. And protecting kids from vulgarisms/offensive words? Since when arent the kids the ones who swear the most?

My name is Joe Sellmansberger and I live outside of Memphis, TN...wait, that's taken? Bummer.

Anyway, I bought some artificial lips once. Came in a nice brown package so my neighbors couldn't tell I was "trying to build the electric tuba player." Make sure you heat them up first but...wait, that one was covered too?

I hope all you racists are happy - you ruined my act!

Seriously, this thread is incredible.

I understand you can make an IWI sound like a tuba. It probably doesn't sound EXACTLY like a tuba but it doesn't have lips and doesn't have to be fed, either!

I desperately want to sell that tuba.
I have two older white plastic tubas, both with out valves, that I would like to renovate.
I want to build the M.T.P. to use on almost every tuba I come in contact with and maybe
figure out what it would take to make the lowest priced tubas in the world be the best ones you could get.
Making the actual tubas may become a lot easier with some progress in the area of 3D printing. I would not be at all suprised to see mouthpieces produced this way within 1 or 2 years and at least parts such as bells within 5 years. Entry level printers are already available C $1000.
This could be where robotics become useful in instrument manufacturing.
