Some of you guys who play NEW King 2341 tubas may already know this but I was quite surprised when I opened my latest order from Conn/Selmer...
Apparently Conn/Selmer finally figured out that these horns aren't just for middle school size thumbs. Take a look at the difference between the old and new thumbrings:
Also.... is Woodwind/Brasswind selling Kings with a detachable upright bell?

A big thumb ring is especially helpful when you have to play out in the cold with gloves on.

Re: King Thumbrings
I didn't get a picture but the profile of the new ring is the same as the old one... just a much larger diameter.bloke wrote:My guess is that they switched over when they introduced the K̶i̶n̶g̶ Conn CC tubas, and the player's thumb needed room to operate a #5 rotor lever.
Is it (the ring...not necessarily the flange) identical to the 20K thumb lever, or something different?

Those thumb rings look like the ones we had the factory make for us (through the repair department) back in the 1970s. Some things improve!
