Another mouthpiece question

Hi All,
I have a Schilke 60 mouthpiece that a friend gave me. I like the feel because its not such a huge change from a tuba mouthpiece. I also recently acquired a YEP-321 Euph. (...haven't played much euphonium for a long time) Well the 60 doesn't fit because of the shank size. Is there something close to the Schilke 60 that would fit this euph?

I use the 60 as my primary bass bone mp, and it works just fine. However, I have briefly tried it in a large bore euph and it did not work at all. Too large och deep. But maybe it will work better for you.

Not likely. A cup that big is almost always attached to a large shank with a backbore to match. You might be able to have a Yamaha 621 etc. receiver grafted onto your leadpipe. Or better: a receiver with interchangeable adapters. Might be overkill for a student/intermediate euph, though.

With my interchangeable sytem it's easy to put a 60 rim on a reasonable euphonium cup and any size shank. Check out my website. Look at the LB series for bass trombone.

The 60 is definitely a bass bone piece. I tried it in a euph (not a 321), and didn't like it. Wrong cup shape. It has an even larger shank than a large shank euph mp. Also has a thin rim, so a tuba player (like me) might not find it so comfortable after a while. I think it's going to be just too big for a 321, even if you changed the receiver.

I borrowed my brother's 321 for several years ('till the bastard remebered I had it), and found that a Bach 3 and a bored out 4C worked well for me. I also tried a Schilke 51 tenor shank, but it sticks farther out of the receiver than the Bachs, and I had to push the main all the way in. I didn't get enough time to work with it to give it a fair evaluation.

I've heard of having a large receiver put on a 321, and I'd be interested to know how that worked, and what mouthpieces worked in this set-up.

You might want to grab a used Bach 6-1/2 or Yamaha 48 in tenor shank (because they're common and cheaper), and see if you think they are too small for you. If you really this you want something much bigger, but with tenor shank, talk to Doug.
