More to the point, H2O2 is a very strong oxidizer; which is what makes it a mild disinfectant. I suppose that chlorine bleach might be better, but the decomposition products aren't neutral.In the home, dilute hydrogen peroxide solutions are used as disinfectants, deodorants, and hair-bleaching agents.
